We welcome Nick Green to our event for the first time this year. Nick had an outstanding 8 year Major League career with the Braves, Rays, Yankees, Mariners, Red Sox, Dodgers, Blue Jays and Marlins. Nick is now a TV Analyst for the Braves on The Fox Sports Network.
Nick was selected by the Braves in the 1998 draft and spent 4 years in the minors, making his debut in May of 2004 against the Brewers. He batted .273 with the Braves.
Many would have seen Nick on Fox Sports in recent times covering the Braves games. On July 2nd, 2004, Green hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to lead the Braves to victory over the Boston Red Sox.
We are pleased to have former Georgia Bulldog QB Great, Eric Zeier, joining us this year for the first time. Eric finished 7th in the Heisman voting in 1994.
Over his four years at Georgia, Eric Zeier completed 877 of 1461 attempts for 11,153 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.
Eric went on to play 6 years in the NFL. First drafted by Cleveland Browns, he continued on to the Baltimore Ravens and then Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before coming back home to Atlanta.
Since retiring from the NFL, Eric is now the Analyst on radio for all the Dawgs games and is a Regional Sales Leader for Academy Mortgage Corporation.

Dave Bristol is a former manager in Major League Baseball in the 1960s and 1970s. He managed the Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, and San Francisco Giants during this period.
Many give Dave a lot of credit for building The Big Red Machine of the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970's. Dave took over the club as manager on July 13 1966. At 33 years of age, and was the youngest manager in the Major Leagues that season, through to 1969. Dave guided the Reds through 3 & 1/2 winning seasons,
In 2018 Dave Bristol was inducted into Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.
Dave has been a participant at the Darrel Chaney Invitational for United Way of White County for 17 years and we welcome him back again!
Thank you Dave.

Hall of Famer Phil Niekro will return to The Darrel Chaney Invitational, once again. Phil has been at every tournament since we started it 17 years ago. Phil's Baseball highlights include;

Through thick and thin, we can always count on Phil’s support of our event for United Way of White County. Phil has literally helped raise millions of dollars for charities all over the country. We are honored to have this Hall of Famer and great guy and, his wife Nancy coming again.
If you hear a low booming voice from a very tall man in a cowboy hat you know Dewey McClain has arrived!! Dewey, a former Atlanta Falcon and his wife Linda, have been participating in the United Way Celebrity golf tournament since nearly its beginning! He is now a state representative from GA District 100 in Gwinnett County and has been a leader in the AFL/CIO of GA.
Linda particularly loves to come to the festivities to see all her Helen friends and get together with all the other sports wives. The United Way golf committee treats the ladies to a memorable outing each year while the teams play.
Dewey loves to meet and greet the supporters and fans and always has a good story to tell! without Dewey and Linda McClain and their valuable support, our tournament, now the Darrel Chaney Invitational Golf tournament, would not be the success it has become.
More about Dewey,
- President of McClain Custodial and Custodian
- Past president of the Metro Atlanta NFL PA Chapter
- Motivational Speaker
- Dewey enjoys fishing, golfing and cooking
- Currently at work on a book of his work with East Central University where he graduated in 1972 with a degree in History and Government
Please note that the name of our event is changing from The United Way of White County Celebrity Golf Tournament to The Darrel Chaney Invitational but nothing else is changing!
We will still contribute every dollar earned from our event to the numerous worthy causes supported by the United Way of White County, but we felt it was important to honor the man who has worked so hard to make this tournament a success.
By all means, this event would not be possible without the time donated by our celebrities and the countless hours contributed by dozens of Committee members and volunteers, but we could never have gotten off the ground without Darrel and his contacts with celebrities from the NFL, MLB, NHL, Olympics and more.
With that said, we express our sincere gratitude to the celebrities, Golf Tournament Committee, the volunteers and golfers who have made our event such a huge success and we look forward to seeing you next April at the 2019 Darrel Chaney Invitational !
We are gearing up for another great celebrity golf tournament! This year we are missing one of our own, committee member, Steve Stack. Many of you may know that Steve battled a brain tumor for the last three years. Sadly, Steve lost the battle to cancer on October 16, 2017 at the young age of 55.
Steve was active in volunteering with United Way. He has been involved with the United Way celebrity golf tournament since its inception 15 years ago. Steve's obituary read, "Steve was all about helping people". We, the Chareity Gold Day Committee, can attest to that statement first hand.
Steve was one who could light up a room with his smile. He was an accomplished traveling musician. Steve worked for Century 21. Steve is survived by his wife, Theresa and their son, Steven. Steven is following in his Dads footsteps as a talented golfer, composer and musician.
Steve's favorite quote: "Life is not a rehearsal.... Live it, baby!"
