United Way 9th Charity Golf Day April 19th

innsbruck golf clubhouseHelen, GA is preparing for another round of golf with local and national sports celebrities at the beautiful Innsbruck Golf Course. The United Way of White County, along with the title sponsor, Gunbroker.com, is sponsoring the 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament at Innsbruck Golf course on April 19th beginning at 8:30am. This event, benefiting the United Way of White county, is the largest fund raiser of the year, and proceeds help fund over 18 White County charitable agencies.

In the past year, the United Way of White County was able to allocate $100,000 to local agencies, due in large part to this tournament. 98% of the funds raised and allocated stay in White County through the United Way.

Honorary Chairman, Darrel Chaney, himself a former Major League baseball player, coordinates the teams and helps match 3 players with a team Celebrity Captain.

Thirty four teams are scheduled to participate this year.

The night before the tournament, on April 18th, celebrities, players, and the public will gather for a reception at Bigg Daddys American Tavern and Restaurant, next door to the Best Western in Helen, to collect autographs and share stories of home runs and touchdowns! This year, expanded indoor seating and entertainment will also be provided. Team players will bid for the celebrity they would like to play with. The reception and dinner at Bigg Daddys begins at 6:00 pm and the public is invited.

Some of the celebrities that will attend this year include Roger Erickson, Dewey McClain, KD Dunn, Steve Nicosia, Steve Bartkowski, Tracy Stallard, Dave Bristol and many others, see the full list here.

According to Arthur Culbreath, a longtime celebrity participant, "this is one of the most organized and enjoyable golf tournaments I play in during the year." "I am a big supporter of the United Way," he added.

All celebrities and their guests stay at the Best Western Riverpark Inn and Conference Center in Helen, which is one of the tournament sponsors. During the two day event, the hotel lobby serves as a reception area for the celebrities and their spouses, who take advantage of the vendors who set up such as Divine Design jewelers, Nikken Wellness and Jigglin George. WNGA 105.1 radio will also be doing live remote interviews with all the celebrities in the hotel lobby throughout the two days.

A special rate will also be given to the public wishing to stay at the Best Western in Helen during this tournament.

Immediately following the tournament on the 19th, a VIP reception and banquet, held at Unicoi State Park and Lodge in Masters Hall, along with a silent auction of sports memorabilia, will be the highlight of the evening. This year the entertainment will be the Open Road band, a local popular rock and top 40's band.

The golf event at Innsbruck is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend and meet their favorite sports personality. Space at the banquet and show is limited, but tickets can be purchased for $25 per person, by contacting Bill Sutton, Jr. at 706-865-3151 or Carol Powell at 706-892-4779. All proceeds benefit the United Way of White County. Thank you to all the sponsors for their continued support.
